Just one week before Christmas!! Are you searching for that perfect gift for someone you know and love? Or at least know? Something that would be highly meaningful on the one hand, but dead-easy to give on the other? I have the perfect suggestion: A GIFT MEMBERSHIP FOR THE BLOG!!
On the landing page, at www.ehrmanblog.org, there is a bright link that allows you to give someone else a one-year membership. It looks like this:
Just click it and give it! Easy as that. What fantastic gift. Something unlike anything they’ve ever received; access to posts week in and week out, throughout the year; the chance to make comments and interact with other; perfect for anyone with even a modicum of interest in the New Testament and early Christianity. A great gift for family members, friends, colleagues, acquaintances, and your favorite family doctors, dentists, plumbers, electricians, teachers, and …. and the guy down the street. So why not?!? Go for it and your Christmas anxieties will end. And the world will be a better place!
I’d like if you could say something on the problem of canon formation and copyist errors in special connection to Revelation 22:18. I have a friend who’s mother quoted this verse as the reason why she hates the Christmas carol “The Little Drummer Boy”, because it adds to the Bible!!!
Protestant Fundamentalists today declare with utter conviction that the author of Revelation when issuing his curse to any who added or took away from the prophecy “of this scroll” was actually placing that curse over the entire canon. Of course we know the canon was not completed for hundreds of years and almost certainly no official 66 book canon existed back then. We also know that there is a very early copyist error in the book regarding the number 666.
In your book Forgery and Counter Forgery, was it you who mentioned that a philosopher from sometime around then wrote a book dedicated to the problem of forgery? I only have the audio version, and I don’t believe I bookmarked it. It seems obvious to me the author of Revelation was simply trying to scare people away from tampering with his work.
I guess I’d like to go back to my friend with a couple of your thoughts on this.
Ah, maybe I should post on that. The verse in Revelation was the ancient equivalent of a copyright. You can’t change this book by adding words or taking words away from it.
Of all the Christmas songs, movies, plays, and writings ever produced about Christmas, this short clip will always be my favorite! It highlights the literary artistry of the KJV…..and Charles Schultz brings it together beautifully from the mouths of babes. I’d like to give a gift subscription, but the gift button/link is not functioning on my end. Will you please help remedy my problem or direct me somewhere else i can order a gift subscription?
Did you work it out? If not, send me an email at [email protected]
