In case any of you is around Winston Salem NC next Tuesday, April 2 — I’ll be giving a public lecture at Wake Forest. This’ll be the first event I’ve done like this since before Covid! I’ll be talking about the real-life effects of the Christian view that the End is Near, based on my book Armageddon. The event is free, and you can find out more about it and register here:

Hi Bart,
Will the 2nd April event be on line. If not you should cancel my reservation. Apologies but I live in the UK.
Kind regards
Alan
It’s not a blog event; it’s just a lecture being sponsored by Wake Forest University, open to the public. I don’t even know if they’ll be recording it. (It’s based almost entirely on chapter 4 of my book Aramageddon, if you want to see what I’ll be saying)
The obvious question: will it be recorded?
I don’t know! And if it is, I don’t know if it’ll be distributed. I just go where I’m told. 🙂
Would love to learn more about this, however I live half way across the world and so can’t attend the event. Will it be recorded and posted online if we register at the site? Or is there other resources you can recommend (other than Armageddon, of course) if we want to learn more?
I’m afraid I don’t know if they’re recording it. My book Armageddon does have endnotes with bibliographical references that would be the ones I most suggest. I won’t be saying much in the talk that’s not already in the book.
Dr Ehrman: U are spreading Christianity far more successfully than any Preacher.
As we are not constrained by the Church leadership [which Wiersbe hated but was grateful for extending his ministry on a building project]
Not constrained by Church Prudes
Hi, Bart,
1) How did the Holy Spirit get so much emphasis in the words of Jesus and of the NT? In what way is the Holy Spirit present in the OT? What origins does it have?
2) In the book of Revelation, regarding the woman thrown into the bed, you said she’s be made to have intercourse with the other men. I have heard of the following interpretation: in that ancient greek environment being thrown to bed meant not being able to do anything anymore, like retiring which would be devastating. Could you comment on that? I want to know how you got to your own interpretation about the intercourse
Thanks
1. The Spirit actually doesn’t show up much in the teachings of jesus until the Gospel of John. The Spirit is prsent in the OT starting with Genesis 1, where the Spirit of God is hovering over the water. But the “Holy” Spirit in the sense of a being distinct from God the Father is more ore less a Christian invention. 2. I think that’s what Revelation says, no? That men come and have sex with her on the bed? She’s not just resting, she’s in bed having sex with a range of men . And Jesus says he will punish her by killing her children. It’s a chilling passage.
