As the holiday season begins, we want to share an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those who need it most. Take a listen to this message from Bart to find out more:
This December, the Bart Ehrman Foundation is launching our first-ever Annual Appeal to raise funds for an organization we have supported since our inception: Urban Ministries of Durham (UMD). UMD is an outstanding organization dedicated to providing food, shelter, and a pathway to stability for individuals and families facing significant challenges. Their mission deeply reflects our values, and we are honored to advocate for and support their transformative work.
We’ve set an ambitious goal: $50,000 by December 31. Reaching it will take all of us coming together, and I’m confident that, with your help, we can achieve it. 100% of the funds donated in support of this appeal will go directly to UMD.
As a token of our appreciation, Bart will host an exclusive Donor Impact Lecture for everyone who donates, no matter the amount:

If you do not receive the email from Zoom within one business day, please respond to this message with your donation information (method, name, amount) so we can ensure you receive your join link.
Throughout December, we will highlight the impactful work of Urban Ministries of Durham (UMD) and share stories that demonstrate how their efforts are transforming lives. These stories will illustrate the tangible difference your support can make for individuals and families in need.
We invite you to join us in supporting this important cause. Your generosity—no matter the amount—can make a meaningful impact.
Click here to donate now! Simply scroll to the bottom of the page, make a one-time donation, and help us reach our goal of $50,000 by December 31.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to support those who need it most. Your contribution truly makes a difference.

Just donated and it has shown up in an email that I did indeed donate. However, the site for the donation said there was a problem, to try again later.
I let you know in case this is a situation for the blog that needs addressing.
OK, thanks!
I forgot to make my initial donation end with .01, so I added a second (very small) donation ending .01. I didnt’ want you to only notice the 2nd and think I was skimping!! Thanks for all you do.
Thanks!
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend the lecture, but I’m interested in the topic of the origin of altruism. I wonder if Bart is familiar with Steve Taylor’s book Disconnected: The Roots of Human Cruelty and How Connection Can Heal the World. Taylor argues that altruism is an essential part of human nature which comes from human connection. He cites examples of connected human societies long before Jesus.
I don’t know the book, but I think that view is obvioulsy true. We wouldn’t have survives (or even emerged) as a species otherwise.
I missed the fact that I had to register and missed the event altogether when I logged in punctually at 2pm ET.
How can I hear this program? Donation is not a problem, but technically I am out.
Thanks
Gisele
